A Collaboration of People & PlaceThere has perhaps never been a more important time for compassion in our region than right now.
We face our shared future today with more confidence because we know that all of you are part of our community. And there is so much more in store for the expansion of compassion in the Seattle area. A Time Like This...Will there ever be a time like this when our community is more open to change?
Never, in at least the last few decades, have so many people been adapting and changing all at the same time. All of our lives have been disrupted to some extent by the Covid-19 pandemic. Things are changing and most of us have come to accept that at some level. Many of us are having a deeper experience of how much we need human connection. We are experiencing our interconnectedness in mindset shifting ways. The illusion of separateness and an isolated, insulated future has been shattered. Many of us know now more deeply than ever that none of us can really thrive while our neighbors suffer. What if....What might be possible if we used a time like this to rethink together what kind of a community we want in Seattle, in the Puget Sound region? What if business leaders, spiritual leaders, educators, government officials, parents, public health leaders, social activists, citizens, philanthropists, workers, deep thinkers, artists, immigrants, native peoples, health care workers and people from every background, experiencing the widest range of lived experiences . . . all came together to imagine what could be possible for this place we call home over the next 10-20 years? To visualize the Beloved Community!

Compassionate Leadership Summit 2019The Compassionate Leadership Summit, held November 2919, focused on how we might bring compassion and mindfulness more effectively into our organizations and communities. The gathering featured leaders from various sectors, including corporations, non-profits, government, education, and communities of faith.
At the Summit, a substantial planning process was begun, embracing the challenge given to all of us in the Compassionate Cities plenary session by Marilyn Turkovich, Executive Director of the International Charter for Compassion. (view video above)
Over the next 12-18 months our intention is for 200+ local leaders to have a set of deep conversations about how we can make Seattle a more compassionate, sustainable community in which all beings thrive. We will have a number of topics and a series of conversations – online or in person whenever possible. We will actively seek out the uncomfortable conversations that we may have been avoiding so that we can find the most powerful levers that can move us forward toward measurable, data driven progress. And we look forward to bringing to the next Compassionate Leadership Summit 2021 some of the learnings and experiences harvested from the process. |
Thriving in the New Normal
"How can we emerge from this crucible into a better, fairer, more compassionate world." Transformative change rarely happens without a catalyst and a crisis. A crucible. A time of profound trial at the end of which something new and much better emerges...
